TIP: How to loosen 5200 to remove those stubborn parts
« on: April 01, 2018, 06:57:15 AM »
Had to remove some hatches the other day and let me tell you someone went 3M 5200 CRAZY. They make some agent that will work but it's very expensive. So I tried a trick I learned a while back to remove Windows COA stickers from computers. Heat! It's important that you only apply enough heat as to not damage the surface. I use a variable heat gun from Home Depot Wagner Furno 750 Heat Gun. The surface was powder coated aluminum. I wasn't to concerned about damaging the powder coated since the hatches where getting resurfaced. 750-800 degrees (definitely want to use less heat for plastic or other non-metallic surfaces) for a couple of seconds was all I needed to loosen the glue and pry a corner off. I worked my way around and got them off fairly easily.

Hope this helps you DIYers
